Epithalon, also known as Epitalon or AEDG peptide, is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) derived from naturally occurring Epithalamin from the pineal gland. Within peptide science, Epithalon is studied for its role in telomere-related pathway dynamics, transcription regulation and pineal signaling models. In preclinical research contexts, the peptide is associated with enzymatic modulation and chromatin dynamics within experimental systems (Khavinson V.Kh. et al., 2003).
History of Epithalon
Epithalon was developed in the 1980s at the St. Petersburg Institute for Bio-regulation and Gerontology as a synthetic analogue of Epithalamin, a natural peptide fraction from pineal tissues. Early studies characterized the interaction with pineal regulation mechanisms and circadian signaling pathways. Later studies extended the investigation to telomere-related enzymatic models and chromatin dynamics, making Epithalon a widely studied peptide within molecular gerontology and transcriptional research (Khavinson V.Kh., Bondarev I.E., Butyugov A.A., 2003).

Epithalon Research Findings
Epithalon has been investigated in models of cellular senescence, transcription regulation and enzymatic modulation. Studies report activity related to:
Interaction with telomerase and telomere elongation in somatic cell models
Modulation of pineal signaling and circadian pathways
Enzymatic modulation within chromatin remodeling
Influence on senescence biomarkers in preclinical models
Major Research Areas of Epithalon
Chromatin & Telomere Focus on telomere dynamics, enzymatic modulation and transcription regulation.
Endocrine Investigating pineal signaling, circadian pathways, and melatonin-related dynamics.
Cellular Study of senescence models, molecular remodeling and pathway characterization.
Scientific Relevance of Epithalon
Epithalon is considered a relevant research molecule for studies on cellular senescence, telomerase-related pathways, and pineal signaling. By interacting with telomere-related enzymes, it provides a tool for research into chromatin dynamics, circadian biology, and molecular gerontology in controlled in-vitro research environments.
